On Wed, May 27th, 2026, I visited the Emergency department of St. Joseph's for the first time. I was born in this hospital 56 years ago. But, this was my first visit ever to an emergency department for myself in my adult life. I guess I have been lucky so far. Over the last few days, my right eye was exhibiting some of the symptoms that could be reflective of a possible retinal tear or retinal detachment. I contacted my own Optometrist that day, but they were unable to fit me in since they were booked solid all day and were just down to one doctor. But, given my symptoms, the assistant at my Optometrist's office strongly suggested that I quickly visit an Emergency room, thus my visit to St. Joseph's. My first visit ever was a positive and solid experience. At Triage and Registration, both attendants were very nice, friendly, and explained things very well. And, in the Emergency Room, I had the privilege of being looked after by Dr. Maria Ivankovic. Dr. Ivankovic was wonderful. She had such a lovely caring and friendly approach. arguably the worst ER i’ve ever been to. came in the early hours of the AM for severe pain. placed a needle in my arm with the promise of an IV. six hours later still no IV or pain meds. ordered to do some imaging, registered, and two hours later still no imaging done. registration said they forgot to log me. this whole time, any chance i had to get input from the doctor she’d change her opinion. she also delayed ordering tests for no reason available to me. “were gonna order the CT” one hour later “we can order one if you want”. this hospital is also freezing cold. FREEZING. i finally return to the main desk after my CT. i ask what the needle is for since it’s been 6 hours. they say no IV has been ordered. i’m like well now i have two needles in me. the nurse came and ripped it out of my hand. it hurt so badly. still no paid meds. an hour later i finally got IV and pain meds but it was too late cause i sat there for hours freezing and suffering that i honestly just told them give me my results via email im going home. then they immediately let me see a nice doctor who told me im ok to leave and gave me a prescription. *i have been here only one other time after my partner was i

Came in and left within 3.5 hours which is actually not bad in comparison with some other emerg departments I’ve been in. Came in for mild chest pain. Got checked in, got an ekg, blood work, saw a doctor and got an x ray and saw the doctor again within those 3.5 hours. Nurses and doctors were all very nice and helpful. The hospital is a little older and the infrastructure could use some love. The nurses at triage seem to be taking their time which doesn’t seem right for an emergency department but it wasn’t too bad. If you have a real traumatic emergency and need to be treated ASAP call 911, you won’t see a doctor immediately here. But for everything else this place is great.

I wanted to share an extremely positive experience I had this past weekend in the emergency department at St. Joe's. The triage nurse who performed the intake for my 3 year old son was beyond incredible and patient with him. Her manner in dealing with him was patient, kind and effective. In the past, he has struggled in a medical setting and her approach resulted in him remaining calm and compliant through his intake. It was such a positive experience. I wasn't able to catch her name but she was at a Triage desk between noon and 3 pm on March 21, 2026.

My recent visit to the Emergency Room at St. Joseph’s Hospital left me with a deep sense of appreciation for the people who work there. Emergencies are never easy, but from the moment I arrived, I felt that things were being handled with efficiency, care, and professionalism. The check-in process was quick, and even though ERs are naturally busy places, I didn’t feel overlooked or forgotten. The staff made an effort to explain what was happening, which gave me a lot of reassurance during a stressful time. The doctors and nurses I interacted with were calm, attentive, and compassionate. They managed to balance speed with genuine care, which isn’t easy to do in such a fast-paced environment. One of the things that stood out to me the most was how clean and organized the ER was. Hospitals see an enormous amount of foot traffic, and it’s not easy to keep everything so well maintained, but St. Joseph’s really impressed me. Cleanliness might seem like a small thing, but when you’re sitting in a waiting area or lying in a bed, it makes a big difference to your peace of mind. It’s also worth mentioning that the ER serves a very wide range of people. I noticed that some patients who came
